Spend a morning painting among the stars and sea.

In this beginner-friendly watercolor workshop, we'll create a whimsical trio of whales drifting through a dreamy celestial sky. Students are welcome to follow the sample painting or choose their own color palette, creating anything from realistic ocean giants to magical whales in shades of purple, teal, gold, or whatever inspires them.

Along the way, you'll learn watercolor techniques including layering, blending, creating soft backgrounds, and adding details that bring your painting to life. No experience is necessary, and all supplies are provided.

Each participant will complete an 8×10 watercolor painting, matted and ready to take home.

At Clucking Hill, classes are designed to be relaxed, welcoming, and fun. Whether you're picking up a paintbrush for the first time or returning to watercolor after many years, you'll be guided step-by-step through the process.

Join Clucking Hill Studio for a day of color, creativity, and unapologetic fabulousness.

Throughout the day, painting sessions will begin as guests arrive and are ready to paint. You're welcome to come paint, stay and visit, enjoy the festivities, or linger for the duration. There is no need to rush off—the more muumuus, the merrier.

We'll be creating an original 8x10 Mid-Century Modern Travel Bird watercolor (currently in progress on the easel), inspired by vintage travel posters, atomic-age design, tropical adventures, and a healthy appreciation for the delightfully ridiculous.

No painting experience is necessary. All supplies are included, and you'll leave with your own finished artwork ready to frame and display.

Of course, no proper Mid-Century Modern celebration would be complete without:

  • Retro snacks

  • Beverages that begin with the letter M

  • Excessive costume jewelry

  • Muumuus (encouraged but never required)

  • General silliness

Attendees are strongly encouraged to wear their best muumuu, caftan, or other leisure-attire and entirely too much costume jewelry. If you find yourself wondering whether one more necklace is too much, the answer is almost certainly no.

Whether you come for the painting, the snacks, the company, or simply because you've always wanted an excuse to wear fourteen bracelets at once, we'd love to see you.
