Beginner Watercolor Classes & Workshops Near Fredericksburg, Virginia

We believe creativity isn't about perfection—it's about permission.

Permission to slow down. To laugh. To make something with your own hands. To forget the grocery list, the traffic, the deadlines, and the dishes for a little while.

Somewhere along the way, adults forgot they're allowed to be a little ridiculous. At Clucking Hill, you're welcome to come exactly as you are. Wear the loud earrings and your comfy pants. Add the gold paint. Laugh too hard. Make something beautiful simply because it feels good to create.

Whether you've painted for years or you're picking up a brush for the very first time, there's a place for you at our table.

Sept 12: Confident Beginner Level to Intermediate Watercolor Class - Harvest Moon and Fireflies
$40.00

Harvest Moon & Fireflies
Experienced/Confident Beginner-Friendly Watercolor Workshop

As summer gives way to autumn, the hills grow quiet, the grasses turn to gold, and the fireflies linger just a little longer beneath the harvest moon.

Join Clucking Hill Studio as we create a peaceful evening landscape inspired by Virginia fields at dusk. Together, we'll paint a glowing moon, rolling hills, native grasses, and a scattering of fireflies brought to life with the studio's signature touches of gold.

This class is designed with experienced beginners in mind. Large shapes, a simple palette, and step-by-step instruction make it approachable while still offering plenty of opportunities for creativity and personal expression. More experienced painters are welcome to add additional details to create a more intricate and personalized piece.

All supplies are included. Come enjoy a morning of watercolor, good company, and a little bit of autumn magic.

Finished artwork size: 8×10 inches.

Aug 8: Beginner Watercolor Class - Fredericksburg, Virginia | First Annual Muumuus, Merriment, & Mid-Century Modern Open House
$40.00

Saturday, August 8, 2026

Join Clucking Hill Studio for a day of color, creativity, and unapologetic fabulousness.

This is an open house, so you're welcome to arrive anytime during the event. Painting begins as seats become available, so there are no formal class start times. Grab a snack, visit with friends, sit on the deck and relax, or simply enjoy the festivities while you wait for your turn to paint. Once you have a seat, you'll have everything you need to create at your own pace, with me nearby if you have questions or need a little encouragement.

We'll be creating an original 8x10 Mid-Century Modern Travel Bird watercolor, inspired by vintage travel posters, atomic-age design, tropical adventures, and a healthy appreciation for the delightfully ridiculous.

No painting experience is necessary. All supplies are included, and you'll leave with your own finished artwork ready to frame and display.

Of course, no proper Mid-Century Modern celebration would be complete without:

  • Retro snacks

  • Beverages that begin with the letter M

  • Excessive costume jewelry

  • Muumuus (encouraged but never required)

  • General silliness

Attendees are strongly encouraged to wear their best muumuu, caftan, or other leisure-attire and entirely too much costume jewelry. If you find yourself wondering whether one more necklace is too much, the answer is almost certainly no.

Whether you come for the painting, the snacks, the company, or simply because you've always wanted an excuse to wear fourteen bracelets at once, we'd love to see you.
